Joel was an undergraduate ECE student at the University of Texas at Austin. He worked with the LASE group from the Spring 2015 semester through the Spring 2017 semester learning optical materials characterization tools and techniques. After graduating, he joined John Bowers' research group at the University of California, Santa Barbara as a Ph.D. student.
